Looking for Tabla Classes in Mumbai?

The tabla is a membranophone percussion instrument originating from the Indian subcontinent, consisting of a pair of drums, used in traditional, classical, popular and folk music.

Whether that is true or not, modern research suggests that the tabla was invented in the first half of the 18th century (about 1738) by a drummer named Amir Khusru, who was instructed to develop a more subtle and melodic percussion instrument that could accompany the new style of music called Khayal.

A disk of black tuning paste placed on the skin of each drum affects pitch and also generates overtones characteristic of the drums’ sound. The musician plays the tabla while seated, with the baya to the left of the day. Sound is produced on the drums through a variety of different finger and hand strokes.

The tabla is the most commonly played drum set in North Indian music. It is the instrument most frequently used to accompany vocal and instrumental music, and dance; whereas its primary function is to maintain the metric cycle in which the compositions are set.
